Sound Editor's notes: Concerning this Miami ALD, which a few people think sound great . . . I am not overly fond of it: muddy high end with hiss (fixed somewhat . . . Hiss removal is a scary process, because you lose some of the high end of the recording), Bono's strange warbling vocals heard clearly once the high end is enhanced (unable to fix--nor do I care to bother), gaps and fadeouts between tracks (fixed somewhat . . . I probably could have done a better job, but since I had spent so much time trying to make the recording sound a little better, I couldn't be bothered), different channel used to broadcast or different EQ applied to the second disc of the recording (so that it sounds slightly worse than the first disc . . . Strangely enough, The Sweetest Thing appeared on disc 1 originally, with Bono's explanation of that song following on the start of the second disc. There's no good reason why this was done--other than that's where the sound/channel or mix changed abruptly, for the worse), clicking noises with volume changes in Until The End of the World and once during New Year's Day (while, I suppose, I could fix this, I really don't have the time to spend to do this; this show is painful enough to edit as it is), etc. *shrug* I sincerely feel this recording sucks (but as I type this, I'm feeling a bit bitter about spending so much time trying to change the sound quality--then realizing I can't do much without bringing out the weird echo problem in Bono's vocals). Why people bother to record U2 ALDs is beyond me, considering Joe specifically messes up the broadcast anyway. Different strokes for different folks, I guess . . . This show was an absolute headache to edit, and while this recording sounds better than the original (the instruments are clearer and stereo widening has been applied)--that's not saying much. The hiss is still there (because I'm not big fan of noise gating), and Bono's voice still sounds "warbly". If you want to de-emphasize this aspect of the recording, turn down the treble on your equalizer. Fade in was applied to Elevation, and fade out was applied to the last track on disc 2. Do I feel this is the best recording of Miami out there? No--certainly not for Bono's vocals. Why do I feel this is an ALD? It's certainly not a normal soundboard recording, and it doesn't sound like a stolen earpiece feed. Is this an MP3 recording? I certainly hope not. While one might suggest Bono's warbling vocals is the result of an MP3 recording, I find it odd that Edge's vocals aren't affected in a similar manner. The mild hiss that hangs over this recording too, is annoying. That said, the instrumentation is a lot clearer than on an audience recording, and Edge's vocals sound great. I notice the guitar has a "warbling" sound as well, from time to time. Anyway, for those of you who just want to burn this ALD and play it, this is the version to listen to. Regards, Aaron

Comments [DaveyDave]:
This is a soundboard cut of the first show of the Elevation Tour. The original soundboard recording was edited by Aaron Cole and this the result is a recording without transition problems between songs. This is currently the better of the two soundboards to get for this night.
